City Receives Community Firefighting Grant

The City of Fernie is welcoming $40,000 in Provincial grant funding. Fernie is one of 230 fire departments in the province to receive funding this year, through the Community Emergency Preparedness Fund (CEPF), to strengthen volunteer and composite fire departments. Fernie Fire and Emergency Services falls under composite fire departments, having a mix of paid staff and volunteers.
The funds awarded to the City will be used to purchase ten handheld portable radios, an extractor washing machine specializing in cleaning firefighter turnout gear, and Fire Incident Safety Officer, Fire Inspector, and Fire Investigator training courses.
In total, the B.C. Government is providing over nine million dollars this year to support composite and volunteer fire departments.
