Coal Creek Utility Repairs to Begin
July 17, 2024
Coal Creek between the Pine Ave (Cokato Rd) Bridge and the CPKC Rail bridge will be temporarily closed for community use from approximately Tuesday, July 23rd through Saturday July 27th as a contractor will be working on utility repairs for the two mains that cross Coal Creek at that location.
The work site is bordered by the popular Great Northern Trail on the south side of Coal Creek. During construction, access to the trail will be controlled.
In 2021, Coal Creek was greatly affected by the atmospheric river event, which brought an unprecedented amount of rain to the catchment and caused significant erosion and rock movement along the creek bed. This event damaged the protective concrete casings of two City utilities crossing the creek, a 300mm diameter watermain and a 200 mm diameter sanitary main. The contractor will be installing protective metal plates along the concrete encasements.
Please watch for signage and avoid the area during construction. We appreciate your patience as we perform maintenance activities on our important infrastructure.
