COVID-19 Closure to the Public - Municipal Facilities
March 16, 2020
Amidst the changing COVID-19 situation, the health and well-being of our staff and community remains our top priority. We are actively working to shift operations while continuing to provide essential services during the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
As the City is shifting immediately to remote work where possible, City Hall, the Operations Facility, and the Fire Hall are closed to the public. City staff will be happy to assist residents over the phone or via email.
The Fernie Aquatic Centre and Fernie Memorial Arena, and Community Centre are closed effective Monday, March 16. The Aquatic Centre and Community Centre are closed until further notice. The Fernie Memorial Arena will not re-open this season.
Staff are working with user groups to cancel and refund any existing bookings scheduled over the next month. The City will be cancelling any bookings for the publicly rented areas at Max Turyk Community Centre. We are also working to connect with lessees and leaseholders at City owned facilities to encourage that all our community partners join us in taking these significant steps to protect the health of our community.
We are implementing additional tools for remote viewing and participation in Council meetings and will continue to stream meetings and provide recordings for online viewing.
Thank you to the public for continuing to practice social distancing as we work together to protect the health of our community.
