National Day of Mourning
April 28, 2017 (10:00am - 10:15am)
Across Canada, April 28 has been designated the National Day of Mourning and each year the City of Fernie pays respects to, and remembers, the thousands of workers who have been killed, injured or suffered illness as a result of work-related incidents. The ceremony will take place on the grounds at City Hall, 501 - 3rd Avenue at 10:00am, Friday April 28, 2017.
The purpose of the National Day of Mourning is to not only commemorate the victims, but also to raise awareness for workplace safety. It’s about making people stop and think about workplace injuries, and workplace deaths. By working together – employers, workers and health & safety partners – we can prevent worker injuries and deaths before they occur.
We also honour the many families and friends who have been deeply affected by these tragedies. Every worker has the right to return home safe and sound at the end of each work day.
