MAYOR'S MESSAGE
As Mayor of Fernie, I would like to welcome you to Fernie.
You will find that Fernie is a jewel of a town in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Part of Fernie's charm is created by its many restored historic buildings, surrounded by majestic mountains.
Of course, Fernie is known world-wide for its 4-season outdoor activities, from fly-fishing to hiking, river rafting and golf, and mountain biking to world-class skiing and snowboarding. Rolling Stone magazine named Fernie the 'coolest town in North America', and outdoor magazines consistently name Fernie among the top 10 ski/ride hills in North America.
People come to Fernie for the outdoor sports and scenery, and stay for the lifestyle, enjoying the small-town ambience and mountain lifestyle combined with excellent dining, a thriving arts scene, a college and a community of people from around the globe.
Fernie is open for business, and attracts light industry including its own brewing company, furniture-making, and sustainable energy companies. Fernie also has the industries focused on natural resources and the building and development sector, alongside the many service industries related to recreation. Close to three international airports, Fernie is only a one hour drive from Cranbrook’s newly expanded terminal and a short drive to Calgary, Alberta or Kalispell, Montana, making it accessible for business and pleasure.
Thanks for checking out Fernie online. We'd love to have you visit here any time of year. Just be prepared to have at least part of your heart captured, so you can never entirely leave.
If you'd like more information on tourism or business opportunities in the Fernie area, please feel free to contact me by e-mail, phone or letter.
Sincerely,
Cindy Corrigan
Mayor/City of Fernie
